Tales from My Garden: In Search of Lost Light
In contrast to the firefly, it might take us a lifetime to find our light.

yeh...I suspect fireflies don't spend a big portion of their lives chasing after an answer to the big question...rather, they just get on with their lives which are governed by the basic mantra of all animals...
Eats, Roots & Leaves ---- Love the omni-present milkweed, and your treatment of it.
VZ: I never knew it's a wilkweed. You are a great source of knowledge, Ray.
Nice picture.Nature purists would want both antennae sharp. Is milkweed what we call a Daisy?
VZ: Oh those nature purists! They would like to see everything as pin sharp. Fortunately life is not that way, and we can rest our eyes on softer blurry moments.
Some will never find the light....I only saw once a few fire-flies, stunning sight.
So is this beautiful macro of you, I love the colors, great DOF.
VZ: ...and some are born with the light (like Mozart). Some have to go through Dante's Circles of Hell to find what they want. And you're right, some might never find the light.
Colours, the lovely colours
VZ: It has never occurred to me to convert it to B&W. I might try it to see, if it's still lovely.
Lovely coloured close-up! I always love the concentration and devotion of the flies to their search, it must be a short, but very intensive life. Your sentence is thoughtful and inspires to think over that. I don't believe that we only have to 'search' and to 'find our light/s', often as I have experienced we get presented with light and we have to accept and to thank for that. For many people it may be very difficult to find their light... This reminds me of Brecht's sentences: "Denn die einen sind im Dunkeln/ Und die andern sind im Licht/ und man siehet die im Lichte/ Die im Dunkeln sieht man nicht."
"And some are in the darkness And the others in the light But you only see those in the light Those in the darkness you don't see." (Dreigroschenoper/Three Penny opera, Mackie Messer Song))
VZ: "...often... we get presented with light..."
Yes, we do, Philine, and often we pass it by without recognizing it as such, until too late. The thing is called an intuition. By the way, Mack The Knife is one of my favorites in all it's incarnations.
Once I get over the girly reaction of a bug so close. It is interesting, I can see why you said he is searching for light. He looks like he is stairing into the center of this Daisy as if it holds the truth to his existance.
VZ: Oh, you're digging deep here, Kelly.
Existence is precarious...
VZ: I know for sure that even strongest armour can't protect you from the penetration not by a sharpest spear, but by a tender word.
What wonderful and strange creatures inhabit your garden... marvellous shot. Great colour.
Nb- the phoenix always rises out of the ashes, so the light always returns.
VZ: Thank you, dear. I'm surprised myself at what I see through the lenses of my camera. The world is rich in forms and shapes indeed.
One of my delights while living in Pennsylvania was the fireflies in the Spring and Summer. At dusk the fireflies were so thick that they became a mass of twinkling lights. I used to go into the fields at night to watched them. I noticed that when their lights are on, they rise, moving up as though they are propelled by a strong ground wind. When their lights are off, the firefly drops quickly to the ground. If it takes a firefly life time to find its light, it would be doomed to never rise and fly. Good thing we aren't fireflies.
VZ: I wonder at what age you found the light, dear Kathryn?
Beautiful macro! And such a different end of the firefly than we normally "enjoy".
VZ: I guess by the "end of the firefly" you meant its out of focus butt.
Ah, often we think that when we find it all will be alright but it's the journey that counts. The petals of the flowers are gorgeous in this shot, Viktor
VZ: Well, some are satisfied with the journey itself, I agree.
Nice picture.
i love the contrast of colors.
VZ: Thanks, Bhumika.
your capture is so fresh ! I love it
VZ: Thank you, dear. Glad you do.
Fun macro shot.
lol @ Ray and his bug knowledge
VZ: delighted you had a moment of fun, Jewlya.
Oh wow - This is such an incredible shot!
VZ: Do you really think so?
I love these shots. It took a moment for me to realize it was a firefly; as someone else said, it's normally the other end we "enjoy". ha ha
I love how the flower petals look like fringe!
VZ: Glad you love them, Beth. The bugs in our garden provide me with so much material. Got to love them.
Je connais bien des gens pour qui une vie d'être humain ne suffit pas à la trouver. Aurait-il mieux valu qu'ils n'aient pas autant de temps ... Auraient-ils mieux cherché ? ... That's the question ...
Like you pic, and as always your comment is a great treat too - even if I'm stuck
VZ: Now you're on the move again, my friend. Hahahaha.
