Zyryality: Small Theater of Big Shadows. Playing a Tree
comments (20)
nice. are you doing an ollie on a skateboard?
VZ: Ha. Forget the skateboard. My only attempt to do an ollie didn't end on a good note.
Creative art on the streets of...Anywhere, World! Gotta love it, Viktor.
VZ: ...on the quiet streets of Alexandria, Virginia, Ginnie, but could be anywhere in the world, you're right. The only thing you need is the sun that dies right in the middle of the street and a 6 foot tall niece that is willing to play along with your imagination.
Look how much i've grown mum
VZ: I wonder, why this question is always addressed to mum and not dad. Any ideas?
I had no idea you were that tall Viktor.
VZ: I'm a dwarf, Ian, comparing to my niece who posed here.
Well seen Viktor. I like the angle and the sepia tone. A quality fun shot
VZ: Thanks Bill. Appreciate.
Dogs, I have noticed, stand close to trees when they are going to leave a calling card.
This, I expect, is VZ's high-tech and very theatrical equivalent.
VZ: Hahaha. That was my niece leaving a calling card. I'm sure she'll be thrilled to read your comment, Ray.
if you play a tree,
i'll play the wind. If you play a dragon, I'll play a princess. If you play a seasick captain, I'll play a mermaid. If you play a hushed voice, I'll play a heavy breath. If you play the Milky Way, I'll play a drifter. If you play a firefly, I'll play dusk.
VZ: To the early morning actor:
If you play the wind I値l play a silky sail If you play a princess I値l play a pea to bother you at night If you play a mermaid I値l play the troubled waters of the river Rhine If you play a heavy breath I値l play a 1940s recording studio microphone If you play a drifter I値l play another one right next to yours If you play a dusk I値l play an illusive shadow lurking in a dusk
Lots of interpretations of what is, has or is about to happen. But I'm sure the tree never loses out. Great amgiguity and delightfully caught and processed. richard
VZ: Our shadows will come and go, Richard, but the shadow of the tree is there to stay for sure.
A very interesting photo-a wonderful artistic play of light and shadow, reminding me of youngsters walking on stilts (what a feeling to grow up and to be quite tall and big, bigger than all those adults!) along the streets, but especially recalling to my mind the thoughtful kafkaesk story of Peter Schlemihl (written by Chamisso) who sold his shadow to the devil and became an outsider in the society, totally lonely... The shadow may signify our individuality (nobody without shadow) or alter ego and our social status..., somebody has a small, somebody a broad shadow, sometimes a little, sometimes a tall shadow, always changing like life...
VZ: Thanks for giving me some homework to do, Philine. You so intrigued me, now I got to find this Chamisso's story about Peter Schlemihl.
Nice bit of playful Animism. I wonder is the street eastbound or westbound ? Is it early morning or late afternoon ? Maybe it doesn't matter, but the sky to ground connection is compelling.
VZ: The sun was fastened from above right over the hill, where the street was ending, casting the funkiest shadows. Ten minutes later it disappeared behind the hill. The shadows died with it.
There is so much life on the streets and sidewalks! (in contrast to the curbs) I love the texture of the bricks - it fades with the light and play. Great photo, Viktor.
VZ: Oh yeah. The life is there, Scott. The trick is in seeing it and recognizing it as such.
Good to hear from you, my friend.
What a wonderful shot. So much for the brain to take in and interprit, from such a simple but clever perspective.
Brilliant
VZ: I'm all ears, FLOOG. Can't wait to hear your interpretation of this shot.
not clever with words VZ, will just say i find that delightful to look at
VZ: I'm delighted you feel delighted, Tim.
OK, seeing as you asked....LOL
The photo throws up instant imagery to my somewhat turgid brain. The wondeful off kilter perspective and the fact that the tree shadow extends to the horizon, reminds me a little of Jack and the beanstalk, and maybe the shadow of the person is a little of the Ginat Ogre in it. The shadow of the person also reminds me of the film TOMMY, you know, Elton John in those high platform boots. I'm also thinking, old brick path and tree seeming to point off in one direction ahead, a little Dorothy and the wizard of Oz.... Even the possibility that the person shadow is taking a tentative step, but the tree shadow is fixed, stable, established, like the balance of man Vs Nature. Nature will outlive man no matter what. Jeez, this is all before a drink! OK, I'll get me coat now! They're all in the mix from this one image, for me.
VZ: Oh my, your mind is all over the place

For his photos and comments I realize that you are a big philosopher who can look and understand the world. A hug, friend. The errors belong to the automatic translator.;-)
VZ: An appreciation of art is such a personal matter, Isabel. Some folks focus on certain aspects of it, say a composition, some pay attention on a technical aspect. I'm glad your understanding of what I do here is much wider.
Playful and powerful image. Well done.
VZ: Thanks Jamula. That's what life is for some of us, one never-ending play.
"Bolschoi philosoph"- yes, this is right!
VZ: That's a heavy burden to carry, Philine.
Nice conversion of a great image!
VZ: Thanks for the compliment, Nadine.
I see you ... I see you ...
VZ: Are you a big fan of the band "Yes", France? "I see you" is the song from their first album that I liked a lot back in the days.
Of course I'm fan
