A time to remember that the World has more than one Bedchamber.
vz-nostalgia: and every one of them has its own Cressida and its own betrayal. smile
This is very strange to me Victor.
vz-nostalgia: Life is stranger than pulp fiction, Michael. smile

Very impressed with the dark effect on these sheets of betrayal...excellent effect, love this new phase ;-)
vz-nostalgia: and I'm impressed with your "sheets of betrayal", Ms. Eva. Brilliant. Could've been another title. Maybe I will borrow it for another project (with your permission, of course smile).

Betrayals are to be found in many places but bedchamber ones carry such a sting. The notion of what is truth is what sent me in a tailspin. I chased its complex nature; the ultimate one that remains mysterious, the more scholarly one that changes as more information becomes available, and the subjective one that accompanies who we individually are. The ultimate truth is the only one that seems to me to be 'abstract' only because it is unknown. If I use this one as a criteria for Cressida, then perhaps she is not so false after all, but living out something that is meant to be, for reasons that we, and she, will never fully understand. Who knows... Fascinating post, Viktor. Thinking about the nature of Truth is not a bad way to end and enter a new year. smile
vz-nostalgia: For most people, the "not a bad way to end and enter a new year" means to watch the dancing bubbles in a glass of champagne, Ms. Suzanne. smile Who wants to think about truth? It gives people headaches. smile I found your thought "...she is not so false after all, but living out something that is meant to be, for reasons that we, and she, will never fully understand" quite interesting. It reminds me very much of Vicomte de Velmont's phrase he repeats over and over again: "It's beyond my control" in "Dangerous Liaisons" smile Very convenient. smile

Many a sin behind a mask!
Happy New Year VZ smile
vz-nostalgia: Then, never take it off, Ms. Linda. Remember, ignorance is bliss. smile
Try to enjoy 2012 to the fullest, Ms. Linda.
Strange, but I like this, the mask in the bed
vz-nostalgia: You are absolutely right, Ms. Patricia. It's a mask in teh bed. smile

Note that betrayal can go in different directions. This Cresseid lies alone in bed, an indication that she made an Roman Catholic priest of her lover. And he will find no discount for this state of affairs comes the divorce verdict.

False Cressida - it is like saying men are unfaithful. A sweeping statement. When a woman betrays her man, there is another man involved. Men and women are both unfaithful.

And then the worst is for a man to loose the love of his life to another woman.

Louis: ...an indication that she made an Roman Catholic priest of her lover.
VZ: Still not clear to me how you came to this conclusion, Louis. smile From what we learned so far the Roman Catholic priests prefer young boys. smile Or, per a poet's alternative: "...and the hours after lunch, when the students and priests are masturbating..." smile

Louis: False Cressida - it is like saying men are unfaithful.
VZ: There is a word for it, Louis. It's called tautology. smile Per you, unfaithful men sounds as redundant as, say, black coal, or wet rain. smile

Louis: When a woman betrays her man, there is another man involved. Men and women are both unfaithful.
VZ: Paraphrasing Joseph Stalin: "One betrayal is tragedy. Millions are statistics." Only he was talking about murders. No one cares about betrayals of others. The one that close to your heart that hurts.

Louis: And then the worst is for a man to loose the love of his life to another woman.
VZ: Really? What does it matter, if it's a man or a woman? Even worse than, say, to lose her to your best friend? smile

"If Love it's not, O God, what feel I so?
If Love it is, what sort of thing is he?
If Love be good, from where then comes my woe?
If he be ill, wondrous it seems to me
That every torment and adversity
That comes from him I can so joyous think;
For more I thirst, the more from him I drink.

If it is in my own delight I burn,
From where then comes my wailing and complaint?
Rejoicing, why to tears do I return?
I know not, nor, unweary, why I faint.
Oh living death, oh sweet harm strange and quaint!
How can this harm and death so rage in me,
Unless I do consent that it so be?

And if I do consent, I wrongfully
Bewail my case; thus rolled and shaken sore
All rudderless within a boat am I
Amid the sea and out of sight of shore,
Between two winds contrary evermore.
Alas, what is this wondrous malady?
For heat of cold, for cold of heat, I die. "

Betrayal is the dark side of believing.
vz-nostalgia: I see I made you dive in to the depth of Chaucer, Ms. Lina. smile
Lina: Betrayal is the dark side of believing.
VZ: Dark. Darker than dark, Ms. Lina. It's a slaughter of Light, of everything ideal and innocent. Things will never be the same. Ever.

1. About the RC priest - I see that you have clear understanding what it means to be one. So when she made a priest of her lover - she has driven him from her bed (she is alone in the picture), the bedchamber and into his own hands and those of little boys.

2. Tautology applies, you are right. False Cressida describes female inconstancy. Unfaithful men are NOT redundant - my argument that for every unfaithful man there is a female being unfaithful (and the other way round). He needs, she needs ... neither can be redundant.

3. VZ: The one that close to your heart that hurts. Let's say I have a son and a daughter-in-law. The marriage lasts for 10 years and I have grown to love her as dearly as I love him. His mid-career crisis leads to him becoming unfaithful and a divorce is the result. Which one is the closest? My heart will hurt for both of them, but for which one will I care most?

4. You loose your bride to another man, you can argue he is stronger, richer, etc. You loose her to another woman you start to doubt your own competency. [heh, heh]
