about me United States flag

God knows how, but I ended up in Atlanta, GA, half a world away from where I grew up. It's hot in here, but I like it anyway.
What's on my mind (subject to change, as I evolve):
Music:
Rock- King Crimson, Genesis (Peter Gabriel's era), Santana (his jazzy period of early 1970s), early Electric Light Orchestra (with lots of raw cellos), early Yes.

Jazz- Roland Kirk, Anouar Brahem, Charles Mingus, Pharoah Sanders, many titles from the ECM label.

Classical- Modest Mussorgsky, Eric Satie, Alessandro Scarlatti.
Contemporary- Osvaldo Golijov, Arvo Part, Maya Beiser, Philip Glass.

World- Ali Farka Toure, Amadou & Mariam, Taraf De Haidouks, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, L. Shankar.

Beyond Categories- Frank Zappa, Lisa Gerrard, Shakti, Jon Hassell, Bjork, Sigur Ros.

In my CD player this week:
1. Alice Coltrane "A Monastic Trio"
2. Frank Zappa "Hot Rats"
3. Count Basie & Joe Williams "Every Day I Have A Blues"

Written word:
Herman Hesse, Kurt Vonnegut, Mikhail Bulgakov, Pablo Neruda, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Film:
Akira Kurosawa, Andrey Tarkovsky, Federico Fellini, Woody Allen, 40s-50s film noir with saltry jazzy soundtracks.

Visual arts:
Amadeo Modigliani, Andy Goldsworthy, Gustav Klimt.

Oh, and one more thing. If my picture strumms a string or two in your soul, and you decide to leave a comment, please remember what a wise dude said long time ago: “Anything in any way beautiful derives its beauty from itself and asks nothing beyond itself. Praise is no part of it, for nothing is made worse or better by praise.” That wise dude was a fine philosopher Marcus Aurelius, and he said this about 2000 years ago. As I see so much sugar spilled all over shutterchance and beyond, I can't help thinking that we didn't learn much since then. :-)
